IPrEP Study Study title: A Combination HIV Prevention Strategy for Young Women at Risk for HIV.
Collaboration: Impact Research and Development Organization (IRDO) in collaboration with the Colombia University
Coverage: Kisumu Central, Kisumu East and Kisumu West sub-counties
Funding: National institute of mental health.
Overall goal: Compare the effectiveness, feasibility and acceptability of two evidence-based adherence support interventions, peer support (PS) or reminders plus resource transfer (RRT), in combination with PrEP to optimize PrEP adherence among young female sex workers in Kisumu, Kenya.
Study Aims: To compare PrEP adherence & discontinuation and completion of study visits in PS and RRT arms, Acceptability and safety of PrEP in both arms, Determine the association between select structural, demographic, psychosocial, and behavioral factors and adherence to PrEPEvaluate HIV risk behavior during PrEP use and determine number of new infections.
Study design. open-label randomized controlled trial (Oral PrEP with, either: (1) Intensive Peer Support (PS) or (2) Reminders and Resource Transfer)
Target Population: HIV-negative young Female Sex Workers (FSW) aged 18- 24 Years
Study period: 2017 to 2022.
